About the artist

Frost Newton loved art from a very early age, his father was an art director and graphic designer, so art was being made around him. He loves to exercise his imagination and express the inexpressible. Salvador Dali’s work had a huge impact on him, bringing dreams to life, creating meaningful enigma, exploring the interaction of images and emotions fascinated him. Frost found the power of creating windows irresistible. He went to work as a commercial artist, he did technical illustrations for the aerospace industry, logos and lettering design for ad agencies, cartoons and caricatures for books.

Frost worked on his own paintings between projects and has worked the gamut from 20-foot-long murals to 5 inch by 5 inch miniatures.

In the more than 40 years that Frost has been a professional artist he has shown his work in countless venues and art shows, has won awards and had several solo exhibits. The logistics of putting on a solo show is exhausting, and Frost prefers now to sell his art to collectors via his website and ships the works directly to them.

Artwork Themes & Subject Matter

SURREALISM

Beyond realism there is surrealism – to him surrealism is creating enigma. Not non sequitur but mystery. Surrealism can evolve with the viewer’s perspective. To Frost surrealism taps into all other themes and subject matter and transcends them.

SYMBOLISM

As a former illustrator symbolism was his trade – symbolism has a definite meaning for the artist, a message. Where surrealism is enigma – symbolism is a story.

SCIENCE

The engine of our age, science changes what it is to be human. Frost is fascinated by our human potential and loves to include science and science fiction in his paintings.

MYTHOLOGY

Frost Newton’s exploration into mythology is more from a sociological perspective – who we are and why we are the way we are. He took on a personal project of a series of surreal paintings based on Grimm’s fairy tales, not to illustrate the stories but to explore their relevance in our contemporary world.

NATURE

All things come from and return to nature – art is Frost’s expression of gratitude.

DREAMS

Life has been described as “a dream within a dream”. Intellectual synapse triggering, giving birth to creativity. Our minds are not limited by our physical reality, so he celebrates the dream.
