About the artist
After a solid training at the famous Gobelins animation school in Paris, Ornélie works as a drawing animator on numerous European feature films.
It seems that drawing characters in volume led her quite naturally towards figurative sculpture, that she started to practice as a self-taught artist.
She did her first steps with clay, and recently moved to polymer. By exploring this innovative material she realized that it offered the freedom she was looking for – she can now go where some classical materials did not allow it.
Challenging herself is largely the driving force behind her art.
She currently lives in Dinan, a beautiful medieval town in Brittany, France
Ornélie is the 2nd prize winner of the Yasha Young Projects Sculpture Award, Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize 2024
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
At a crossroad between volume and illustration, it is through sculptural portraits of female characters that Ornélie likes to develop an atmosphere often surreal and romantic, sometimes dark and strange. She is influenced as much from classical painting (pre-Raphaelite, romantic, art nouveau, surrealism, pop art), as from comics and illustration, cinema, animation, and literature.
By playing on the codes of the cabinet of curiosity, her sculptures are paths towards her dreams of fantasized eras, as many Gothic and Victorian visions.
All her artworks are strictly one-of-a-kind, totally handmade with polymer clay, including fabrics, laces and eyes, and hand-painted.
