About the artist
Ross Takahashi is a Japanese-American sculptor, art educator, grant writer. His work focuses on human cognition, ecological impacts, and our current climate crisis. Ross holds a B.A. in Psychology from Nevada State University. His work takes from research in ecology and psycho-social systems of transgenerational threads of permanence, and evanescence. Each piece is derived from a basis of conceptual, and empirical research, and explores these topics through a magical realistic lens. Hyper realistic details help bridge the gap of our relationship with nature, and human-related forms. Metals are an important medium in his practice, as they represent immortality, and a means for lasting preservation of temporary elements. His work has been showcased in galleries and sculpture parks throughout the United States and featured internationally.
Ross Takahashi is the 2nd prize winner of the 33PA Emerging Artist Award, Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize 2024
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
Ross Takahashi’s work focuses on lifecycles in the natural world through emergence, growth, preservation, death, and decay; harmonious elements that humanity attempts to control. Each piece explores these systems and our collective relationship between humanity and nature, providing a glimpse into our collective understanding between the stewardship of nature and ourselves. Much of Ross’ work draws from conceptual and empirical ecological research and psychosocial systems of transgenerational threads of permanence and evanescence, with a focus on ecological memory. His sculptures use meticulous details created through fine metalsmithing and metallurgical techniques to recreate flora, fauna, and interwoven human artifacts through a magical realistic lens to bring us closer to our relationship with nature.
