About the artist
Sebastià Martí Benedí is a visual artist and illustrator. He introduces himself with four brushstrokes.
He defines his work with a few labels (that thing as odious as practical), they would probably be: symbolism, surrealism, eroticism and humor. He likes to explore different styles and themes, which makes his work look deceptively heterogeneous. And although he is not one to put words to artistic intentions, it could be said that what he seeks is to provoke sensations, small physical and mental twinges.
As for the technique, Sebastià have a certain preference for watercolor because of the agility it offers and, above all, because he have reached a level that allows him to express his ideas in a very precise way. His repertoire also includes pencil and ink drawing, digital illustration and, to a lesser extent, oil painting.
At this point of his life, he would like to have more visibility to be able to focus entirely on artistic creation.
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
Over the years Sebastià Martí Benedí has come to look at his life (and forgive the metaphor which he think is necessary in this case) as a stroll through a sort of forest in which the sensations produced by its elements change constantly; from terror and the most depressing panic, to love so pure as being suspicious; from egoism and exhibitionism to heartbreaking sadness; from the humor that misses laughter through the awareness of the passing of time; from the unconscious, dreamlike fantasy, which partially lives through nights and days, to the conscious imagination, which produces non-existent worlds; from sick and disgusting feelings towards lust sought after, and especially, towards lust that is not.
The metaphor of the forest allows him to give meaning to this mixture of sensations. If he squint just enough, a set of slimy, trypophobic, attractive and repulsive shapes appear and surround him, altogether, writhing among themselves, sprouting here and there without logic. When one is affected by aesthetics, the environment, real and imaginary, exerts a strong influence on the way we encode and represent sensations and feelings.
