““I paint to disrupt certainty.”
Growing up between two opposing worlds—one defined by strict control and the other by complete freedom—Gregory developed an early understanding that imposed truths and lived truths often conflict. This tension remains at the heart of his practice. Rather than offering answers, his paintings embrace ambiguity, inviting viewers to question certainty and explore the instability of identity.
Gregory’s work looks beyond surface appearances, exploring introspection, contradiction, and the parts of ourselves we often avoid. Through shifts in scale, layered imagery, and the balance between what is revealed and concealed, he creates works that invite participation rather than passive observation. His paintings become mirrors, encouraging viewers to project their own experiences and discover meaning that evolves over time.
Malphurs’ work is held in private collections across the United States, Europe, South America, and Australia. A top-selling artist on Rise Art, he has built an international following of collectors who value not only the visual impact of his paintings but their lasting ability to challenge, reveal, and reflect long after the first encounter.
