About the artist

Amy is a contemporary artist residing in the US. Her journey into art began in childhood, deeply influenced by her grandmother who was also an artist, as well as her love for cartoons. What began as simple notebook doodles soon developed into something more. This included her bedroom wall which was a short-lived but remembered masterpiece. Amy’s foundation as an artist is self-taught, but she has enhanced my skills over the years by participating in various workshops and classes. She started as a painter but eventually merged into ceramics. It felt like a natural progression and is currently her primary medium, specifically focusing on narrative sculpture. Amy has always had a deep appreciation for Flemish art. It captures the realistic element of the time while also celebrating the imperfect. Distorting certain aspects of the painting and hiding little easter eggs to tell a story. There is something about it that really captivates her and she’s always felt connected to it. She is really drawn to intense colors and exaggerated features yet still appreciates the simplicity of a basic sketch.

Her work is often shaped by nostalgic pop culture and the raw beauty of the natural world. It’s a unique blend where one brings an immediate boldness while the other rests in the details, like the texture of leaves or hair. Life is complex so the merging of these 2 themes can illustrate the duality of our existence. In a dark moment, laughter is thought to be the best medicine, so adding humor to her artwork feels therapeutic in a way. We all seek balance and things are never what we anticipate. Dodging life’s punches isn’t always an easy task. Sometimes head on is the only option, forcing an internal review, and release of emotional creativity.
