Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
Abigail Clark’s work sits on the boundary of fine art and fashion photography with an emphasis on high concept and thematic boundaries. Her platinum-palladium series Leaves of Grass is a photographic representation of the poet Walt Whitman’s titular poetry collection, envisioned as a radical exploration and celebration of the human body and its interactions with the natural world. Her secondary series, shot in colour, They’re Just Girls explores themes of radical third and fourth wave feminism by reinterpreting legendary women from history and mythology as contemporary figures, whether that’s Marie Antoinette as an Instagram cottagecore influencer or Demeter as every mother who has found themselves in the quandary of looking for their child in the grocery store (hint: Persephone is in the produce section, sampling the pomegranates).
