About the artist
Hiroshi Hayakawa was born and raised in Japan. He earned a BA in French Literature from Keio University in Tokyo. After a short stint working as a computer systems engineer, he decided his love of life was making art. He relocated to the United States in 1991, attended Columbus College of Art and Design earning BFAs in Photography and Fine Arts, and then Cranbrook Academy of Arts for his MFA in Photography. He expresses his artistic vision in several mediums including drawing, painting, kinetic sculpture, alternative photography and paper crafts. In recent years, he has been more focused on drawing, working on a series entitled “Vanitas”.
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
“Vanitas” has been the main theme of Hiroshi’s work for the past few years. This theme is expressed through realistic figurative mixed media drawings combined with objects and environments.
