About the artist
Joseph Bellofatto is a full-time artist currently residing in the suburbs of Raleigh, NC, USA. He originally started his art career as an illustrator in the sci-fi/fantasy genre and then moved to creating fine art from his own ideas. His primary artistic interest lies in figurative work and portraits in the classical tradition that expresses a narrative, an aesthetic, or hopefully both. His mediums of choice are: oils, graphite, coloured pencils and ink.
The artist’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the US, but primarily throughout the east coast of the US. He also travels along the eastern part of the nation to attend various conventions and art fairs where he exhibits and sells his work.
Joseph Bellofatto has won numerous awards in gallery shows across the US, has been twice nominated for a Chesley Award from the Association of Science-Fiction and Fantasy Artist Association (ASFA) and has had his work appear in several editions of the annual published by owners of Infected by Art and its corresponding website. The artist’s work has also been a finalist several times in the annual salon competition catalogue published by the Art Renewal Center (ARC) and in 2023 became an ARC Associate Artist. He is also a member of The International Guild of Realism.
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
Joseph Bellofatto’s artistic objective is to create work that primarily conveys the traditional virtues (beauty, chivalry, heroism, sacrifice, etc.). The genres he believes to best achieve this are mythology, surrealism, imaginative realism and romantic fantasy. His subject matter focuses on the human form and portraits.
