Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
Xavier Escala’s sculpture emerges from a Mediterranean spirit enriched by classical Greek, Etruscan, and Egyptian influences, yet it transcends them to form a language uniquely his own. His work reflects a constant search for the metaphysical essence of humanity, portraying figures that are both collective and solitary, often fused with architectural elements as if they were living structures. This emptiness is never nihilistic but profoundly spiritual. For Escala, sculpture is both a noble craft and a journey of inner knowledge, where mythological symbolism, universal dualities, and timeless truths converge through his exceptional mastery of drawing, modeling, and direct carving.
