About the artist
Andrew Hopgood is an Australian artist based in Melbourne. He began his practice in illustration and, around 2019, expanded into oil painting and sculpture. His work draws attention to endangered species and encourages a more caring relationship with the environment. Through realistic yet subtly surreal compositions, he explores the beauty and power of the natural world.
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
Andrew Hopgood creates narratives where the line between reality and fantasy is intentionally blurred. In these imagined worlds, he explores the growing environmental challenges faced by wildlife, while offering small signs of hope as endangered species adapt to a changing environment. By combining familiar elements with the fantastical, he creates immersive works that feel both real and dreamlike. This approach is central to his practice, through which he aims to raise awareness of endangered species and encourage a more thoughtful relationship with the natural world.
