About the artist
Olivia Mazzola explores beauty, femininity, and the poetry of human emotion through her refined approach to portraiture. Guided by light as her primary expressive language, she transforms intimate moments into dreamlike imagery where elegance becomes both the subject and the sensation it evokes. Her work invites viewers into a world where vulnerability becomes power, softness reveals its own quiet strength, and emotion is held in its most graceful, luminous form.
Artwork Themes & Subject Matter
In Olivia Mazzola’s photographic style, there is a deliberate tension between stillness and motion, clarity and mystery. In every frame, she searches for the fleeting instant in which the subject becomes more than themselves where elegance slips into the surreal, and the unseen speaks louder than what is visible. Her goal is not to simply document a person, but to invite viewers into a realm of abstraction where femininity is fluid, blurred, timeless, and charged with imagination.
Olivia’s narrative foundation is rooted in the concept of “Eramnesía”, a neologism drawn from Greek that evokes the sensation of having been born in the wrong historical era a nostalgia for a time one has never lived. Photography allows her to build this parallel, imaginary world where her vision is in constant dialogue with the dreamlike and the concealed, with what is quietly revealed in the margins. Her subjects appear to emerge from a suspended moment in time, becoming both present and elusive: a silhouette of longing, a blurred recollection, an icon stripped of narrative certainty.
Motion and darkness lie at the core of Olivia’s language. Blurred atmospheres, dissolving contours, and garments that behave like extensions of the psyche all shape her pursuit of a dreamlike state. Through light-painting, using continuous light and intentional camera movement during long exposures, she generates images that feel at once kinetic and ephemeral. She further deepens this sensorial world through reflections, refractions, and both double and multiple exposures, building layers that echo her fascination with the elusive, the remembered, and the imagined.
